Biking to Phu Lang Pottery Village and Dai Bai Traditional Craft of Bronze Casting.
Today, we will bike to Southeast of Hanoi to see another pottery Village, Phu Lang craft village. It is situated at the poetic Cau River. Pottery products made by Phu Lang Villagers are different from those in Bat Trang. Phu Lang impresses tourists with its simplicity and friendly people. Among dozens of craft villages in the Cau River area, the cradle of the Red River civilization, Phu Lang is well known with many ceramic artisans.
Đại Bái village in the northern province of Bac Ninh follows a traditional craft of casting bronze items- a profession, which has been in existence for hundreds of years. Rising prices of input materials, and reduced demand in recent years have had a negative impact on the village’s business. In this context, some crafstmen have turned to portrait statues in an effort to keep their craft alive. Đại Bái village, formerly known as Văn Lãng, is 30km north of Hanoi’s center. In its heyday in the early 11th century, Dai Bai was famous for casting household utensils. Guilds were formed to produce a variety of bronze items such as pots, trays, kettles, and basins. For many years, the village was renowned for producing devotional items such as statues, urns, vases, and parallel sentences
8:00AM. We depart from Hanoi and drive to National way No 18 where we start cycling to Phu Lang pottery village (60 km away from Hanoi). The village located in Phu Lang Commune, Que Vo District, Bac Ninh Province. Here you can study how the local people make a ceramic product and know why these products quickly found both domestic and foreign markets. Enjoy the atmosphere and local activities at a traditional village.
Tourists can stay at villagers’ homes to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere, see the ceramic kilns mushrooming along the dykes or on the low hills near Luc Dau Giang, facing the Cau River, which runs all the year round.
We have lunch in a local restaurant or family. Continue to visit Dai Bai Village – it is famous for long aged handicraft village. We will take a ferryboat through Cau River to the other side o Bac ninh Province. Arrive Dai Bai village, we bike through the hamlets of the village and visit a famous artisan house and see how people making beautiful craft products.
Come back to Hanoi by car. Tour ends late afternoon
