Hanoi Cycling to Luang Prabang – 10 Days

Biking Hanoi to Luang Prabang. It is a city located in north central Laos, on the Mekong River about 425 km north of Vietnam. The city was formerly the capital of a kingdom of the same name. Until the communist takeover in 1975, it was the royal capital and seat of government of the Kingdom of Laos. As the sky grows light along the Mekong River here, it is no longer the quiet footfalls of Buddhist monks that herald the day but the jostling and chattering of hundreds of tourists who have come to watch them on their morning rounds…

Day 1: Hanoi – – Lao Cai  by train .
Meet on arrival in Ha Noi hotel , tour briefing and transfer to Hanoi train station overnight on night train to Lao Cai.

Day 2: Lao Cai Sapa (B/L/D) (20 km cycling )
In the morning, the train will arrive in Lao Cai, the border town between Vietnam and China’s Yunnan province. The town is around 1500 meters above sea level. Transfer 40 km on scenic uphill to Sapa or check in. Late afternoon, have fun biking through tribal villages and valley, then cycle back to Sapa. Overnight in Sapa.

Day 3: Sapa – Tam Duong – Pa So (B/L/D) (80 km cycling )
Start cycling from Sapa, pedal uphill to the highest pass: Tram Ton, or  ‘’Heaven’s Gate’’, about 2000 meters above the sea level. Then descend  through breathtaking scenery to Binh Lu. In the afternoon, continue pedalling to Pa So, via Tam Duong. Overnight in Pa So.

Day 4: Pa So – Sin Ho – Muong Lay (Lai Chau) (B/L/D) (80 km cycling )
Ride uphill to Phing Tho and Sinh Ho, one of the highest mountains in the area, and also the  homeland of the Red Hmong, Mang, and Dao ethnic minorities. Pedal cross the mountains, beautiful valley, and tribal villages,  soaking in the unique scenery along the way. After crossing the junctions of Da and Na rivers, you will keep pedaling to Lai Chau, Muong Lay.

Day 5: Muong Lay – Tuan Giao – Bien- Dien (B/L/D) (80 km cycling )
Take a short transfer to Tuan Giao, and start to cycle on the back roads, dirt tracks and bumpy rural roads. Cycle to visit remote  minority villages. Visit tribal village and continue cycling to Dien Bien Phu.

Day 6: Dien Bien Phu by bike (B/L/D) (30 km cycling )
Ride to visit the Museum of Dien Bien Phu, A1 hill and the cemetery of Dien Bien Phu,  where several Viet Minh soldiers died before 1954. You will also visit the big bunker of the general De Castries, old Muong Thanh’s bridge, and Man Rom River. Relax on your own for the remainder of the day.

Day 7: Dien Bien Phu – Muang Khua, Laos (B/L/D) (70 km cycling )
Ride 36 km to the Tay Trang border of Vietnam, continue riding  alongside the Nam Ou river to Mouand Mai. Continue riding, mostly downhill, to Muang Khua. Overnight in Muang Khua.

Day 8: Muang Khua – Oudomxai (B/L/D) (80 km cycling )
Ride through jungle and rice paddies to Oudomxai cycle, including  a tough hill climb, then continue to cycle to Oudomxai. The town is a good  place to visit Hmong and Khmu villages. It is also known for its natural hot springs in Muang La, and some spectacular waterfalls, most of which are still untouched and undeveloped.

Day 9: Oudomxai – Pak Mong (B/L/D) (70 km cycling )
Pedal up the Laotian mountains into the Hmong villages, then ride through rolling hills and particular scenery on the way. You will pedal past small villages with friendly locals and little kids who love to surround  you! In the afternoon, ride downhill through a rainforest to the town of Oudomxai.

Day 10: Pak Mong – Luang Prabang (B/L/) (90 km cycling )
Cycle on the hilly roads along Nam Ou River to Luang Prabang. Luang Prabang is a city located in north central Laos, on the Mekong River ,about 425 km north of Vientiane. The city was formerly the capital of a kingdom of the same name. End of services.
